Implement Meatless Monday at Your School
TeachKind is launching Meatless Monday to help schools improve student health. Taking part in the project is free of charge. All we ask is that your school provide vegetarian and vegan meal options every day and eliminate meat from cafeteria meals each Monday.
Why Meatless Monday?
Unfortunately, childhood obesity has become an epidemic in America, and many kids standing in line in school cafeterias are forced to pick from fat-laden hamburgers, high-calorie chicken fingers, and greasy, cheesy pizza. The best way for schools to help students achieve and maintain a healthy weight is to drop the chicken nuggets and fish sticks and start introducing kids to delicious vegetarian and vegan meals.
Similar programs have been launched at schools across the nation. Baltimore's public schools implemented a meatless Monday program and have experienced tremendous success. Meatless Monday not only provides healthier meals for students but also helps protect the environment and save animals' lives.
How Does It Work?
Once your school commits to providing completely vegetarian and vegan meals at school each Monday, we will do the following:
- Host a soy ice cream party to kick off Meatless Monday at your school
- Send you posters to hang up in school promoting Meatless Monday
- Offer a speaker to come talk to students about the health, environmental, and animal welfare benefits of a vegetarian diet
- Provide engaging lesson plans for educators to use in the classroom about why it's important for students to eat their vegetables
- Liaise with your catering company to help alter Monday menus, if you would like us to do so
- Be available to support you throughout the project
- Give your school TeachKind's Compassionate School Award
