Description: This attractively drawn comic
tells the story of three kids who go to an animal-free circus
and meet a strong man and a trapeze artist who share the compelling
story of Daisy the elephant. In the course of listening to
Daisy’s story, the children learn interesting information
about the behaviors, family lives, and natural habitats of
elephants. The comic also includes the remarkable true story
of a mother elephant who rescued her baby from flood waters.
Suggested Uses: Distribute copies to students
to encourage reading, or if your students are too young to
read, read the story aloud while students follow along. Librarians
can provide copies at the check-out desk or give them out
as awards in reading programs. Science teachers can use the
comic to supplement lessons on animal behavior. Social studies
teachers and humane educators may want to use the comic to
discuss the proper care of animals.
