Lessons for Black History Month

African-Americans for Chickens

This lesson highlights influential African-Americans who have spoken up for the rights of chickens. Read their biographies to your students so they can learn about the ways in which these compassionate citizens have contributed to our society and to the animal rights movement.

After reading each biography, ask students to raise their hands if they have heard of the featured individual. Ask what they know about that celebrity, and answer any questions that they have. If you do not know the answer to a question, write it on the board and ask students where they might be able to find the answer.

You may also want to print and copy this online Black History Month Special, which includes a fun quiz and article, for your students.
