The following César Chávez curriculum is in honor of the man whom Sen. Robert F. Kennedy called "one of the heroic figures of our time." A farm worker and labor leader, civil rights leader and spiritual figure, César Chávez's passion for justice did not stop with humans. He actively participated in speaking up for animals, providing students with a wonderful example of an individual who fought against injustice wherever it took place.
The following lessons were designed to be used in conjunction with the César Chávez curriculum, which was mandated in California (the number on the top right of each lesson corresponds with the grade level and the specific section of the mandated curriculum that it can be used with). The lessons were also designed to be used on their "Kindness and compassion toward all living things is a mark of a civilized society. … Racism, economic deprival, dog fighting and cock fighting, bullfighting and rodeos are cut from the same fabric: violence." - César Chávezsangeeta 534 02-13-04 |
