Where Do Eggs Come From?

Closing and Extension

Closing
Ask students to summarize what they have learned.

Extension Activities
Ask students to research egg farms online. The following links are good places to start:

    • “Ban Battery Cages” shows Compassionate Action for Animals’ investigations at Michael Foods egg farm, which produces eggs for Crystal Farms.
EggCruelty.com shows Mercy for Animals’ findings from investigations that were conducted at the two largest egg factory farms in Ohio, Buckeye egg farm and Daylay egg farm.
ISECruelty.com provides Compassion Over Killing’s documentation of an investigation at the Maryland-based, “humane care certified” ISE egg farm.
EggScam.com explains what the “humane care certified” logo on egg cartons actually means and argues that the logo is nothing more than a public relations ploy used to mislead the public.
    • “Free-Range Facts” includes information on free-range egg farming.
