Thanksgiving is one of the most celebrated holidays in America. It is a time when loved ones gather and share food in the spirit of giving thanks. However, in the evolution of this tradition, it is in most recent years that the public is beginning to think differently about the centerpiece on their table-the turkey.

- Write an essay or a report on society's perception of turkeys and how it can change.
- Write about how you believe holidays can become more humane toward animals.
- Discuss traditions and their importance in society, and then talk about traditions that are cruel to animals. Afterwards, ask students to write about ways of improving traditions in order to become kinder to animals.
