Yu-Gi-Oh! Sends a Message of Compassion for Animals With a Free Poster From TeachKind

You know that kids love Yu-Gi-Oh! They play the card game and the video games, read the manga in SHONEN JUMP magazine and graphic novels, watch the anime series on TV, and even go to the theater to see his feature-length movie-they just can't get enough of the wild-haired defender of justice! Because students of all ages love Yu-Gi-Oh!, TeachKind teamed up with him to send a message of compassion for animals to youth with a new, free poster. As an added bonus, if you hang the poster in your classroom, give your students the issue of Grrr! magazine that has the pull-out Yu-Gi-Oh! poster, and tell them about the Yu-Gi-Oh! contest at TeachKind.org, you will be known as the coolest teacher in school.

Three Steps to Becoming the Coolest Teacher in Your School While Promoting Kindness and Compassion

1. Order free Yu-Gi-Oh! posters for your classroom and school library. To place your order, click on the link below.

2. Tell your students about TeachKind's Yu-Gi-Oh! contest. Students can win an original autographed sketch donated by Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi by simply sending an e-card of the Yu-Gi-Oh! poster to their friends. They'll be encouraging their peers to be kind to animals and getting a chance at this great prize. Tell students that they can enter the contest by visiting TeachKind.org or by drawing a picture of their favorite Yu-Gi-Oh! character helping an animal in need and sending it to TeachKind:

3. Order free classroom quantities of the latest issue of Grrr! magazine. If you teach second- through eighth-grade students, be sure to order enough copies of the latest Grrr! magazine (issue 3, 2004) for all your students. It includes a pull-out poster, information on how students can help animals, the Yu-Gi-Oh! contest, and an interview with Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi (reprinted below), who tells us why being kind to animals is important to him. Take a look at our interview with Yu-Gi-Oh! creator Kazuki Takahashi!

Q: What is your favorite animal?
A: I like horses.

Q: Why?
A: Their appearance when they run is beautiful, so I like them. I like dogs, too. I love dogs. Because I had a dog a long time ago.

Q: What kind of dog?
A: A mix, a mutt.

Q: Can you talk about why Yugi is kind to animals?
A: It's all the same life. If there were another living creature in front of you, if you feel that the same life is dwelling inside of him, you probably couldn't be mean to him.

Q: In Yu-Gi-Oh!'s story, there's a lot of battling against injustice and evil. What sort of relationship do you think exists between injustice and animal cruelty?
A: Violence toward somebody else actually is violence toward yourself. That's what I think cruelty is. It's very difficult to explain, but I think cruelty is trying to gain satisfaction by hurting others because of something that is lacking inside yourself.

Q: So, you mean that when you hurt somebody else, you're hurting yourself at the same time?
A: That's right. Inflicting violence on another means you don't love yourself.
